For this module, I used TimeMapper to map out some of the fiction that I’d read for my American Realism class last spring by their dates of publication and settings. I thought this might be interesting because survey courses tend to cover a variety of years within a time period, and because this particular movement coexisted with the regionalism movement and local-color tradition, so the settings of a lot of these books are integral to them.
I would have preferred to present information that worked better as a connected narrative, and utilize one of the more multifaceted tools, because I actually find interactive digital mapping sincerely fascinating and would very much have enjoyed exploring its potential. With that said, I had limited time and still very much enjoyed doing the project that I did.
